He lives near Moscow.
The deposed Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad is living in Rublyovka and studying ophthalmology again. The British publication The Guardian writes about this, citing several sources in Russia and Syria, including a family friend of the former dictator. According to the British newspaper's interlocutors, Assad was able to transfer most of his capital to Moscow and now supposedly lives in Rublyovka.
"He lives a very quiet life. He has almost no contact with the outside world. He communicates only with a few people who have been in his palace, such as Mansour Azzam (former Syrian minister of presidential affairs) and Yassar Ibrahim (a close economic associate of Assad). He is learning Russian and refreshing his knowledge of ophthalmology again. It's his passion, he clearly doesn't need the money. Even before the outbreak of the war in Syria, he practiced regularly in Damascus," the publication quoted an Assad family friend as saying.
Bashar al-Assad fled Damascus with his sons on the night of December 8, 2024, as Syrian rebels approached the capital from the north and south. They were met by a Russian military escort and taken to the Hmeimim airbase, from where the family was flown out of the country. Earlier, Die Zeit wrote about his life in Moscow.
