The release of political prisoners brings Belarus' freedom closer.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry commented on the release of 123 Belarusian political prisoners who were freed by the Lukashenko regime after negotiations with a delegation from the United States.
Kiev reminds the regime in Minsk of its responsibility:
- The release of people who were thrown behind bars just for wanting to be free was possible thanks to the joint efforts of the United States of America, personally President Donald Trump, the entire democratic community, all human rights defenders and non-governmental organizations, who for many years have not stopped fighting for their freedom.
We believe that the release of political prisoners will also bring closer the liberation of Belarus as a country - it has been under Moscow's vassal rule for many years and in the captivity of Lukashenko's regime, which, among other things, uses people as living commodities to exchange for political indulgences.
We are convinced that one day Belarus will eventually return to its natural state of a free, democratic European country. This will be facilitated by the current released persons - from Nobel Prize laureates, public and political figures to ordinary freedom-loving people.
Alexander Lukashenko and all those involved in the massive human rights violations in Belarus will not be able to escape responsibility for all the crimes committed - both against Belarusian citizens and Belarus, and against Ukraine and the Ukrainian people.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses its gratitude to the Coordination Center for the Treatment of Prisoners of War for its assistance in the investigation and prosecution of these crimes.
