Viktor Babariko Could Not Directly Answer The Question Of Whose Crimea Is His
Victor Babariko and Vladimir Zolkin

The ex-political prisoner said it was "inappropriate" for him to answer the question about the belonging of the peninsula.

Ex-head of Begazprombank Viktor Babariko, released on December 13 from prison and taken to Ukraine, could not specifically answer Ukrainian blogger Vladimir Zolkin's question about Crimea's belonging.

The blogger published an interview with the ex-political prisoner on his YouTube channel.

"This is generally a very complicated question (about the belonging of Crimea. - Note.) If we refer to history, it is generally so dark that I am not ready to answer the same question. My answer of 2020... I was criticized for it, for ignorance of history, so I kept silent and said: I don't know. <...> In terms of, I guess, legally, Crimea (unless the treaties there were canceled when it was annexed there), then... yes. I'll avoid answering a direct question in detail, too, because, again, if I say referendum, I'll be told about the legal invalidity of that referendum. <...> I'm not prepared to comment on that in public. Let's make such an answer", - said Babariko.

The ex-banker added that this is his internal position (on the belonging of the peninsula. - Note.). He said that for him it is not advisable to answer this question directly now. Babariko also noted that no one pressures him on this issue.

The ex-banker could not answer the question of who attacked whom, referring to the lack of information regarding the war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.

Besides, Babariko said that he could not imagine a military conflict between Russia and Belarus. According to him, there are no reasons for a conflict between the countries.

Reminder, in May 2020, Viktor Babariko called Crimea Greek. "There is such a popular question, whose Crimea is. There is a beautiful answer - Greek", - said the ex-banker to the question of "Nasha Niva" about the belonging of the peninsula.

It should be noted that in September 2020, the former head of the election headquarters of Maria Kolesnikova in an interview with the Ukrainian edition of Lb.ua said that she agreed with the official position of the Lukashenko regime on the belonging of Crimea. "I think you know her. De facto Crimea is the territory of Russia, de jure it is the territory of Ukraine," Kolesnikova said at the time.

Viktor Babariko headed Belgazprombank, a Belarusian subsidiary of Gazprombank, which in turn is owned by Russia's Gazprom, until May 2020. Babariko left his position after announcing his intention to take part in the presidential election in Belarus.
