The US president called the strike on Kiev "disgusting".

U.S. President Donald Trump sharply judged Russia's strike on Kiev that killed 28 people and injured nearly 160. "What Russia is doing is disgusting ... I said if I came into office I would try to stop it, but I think her actions are very sad," he said at a White House news conference.

Trump also said he would tighten sanctions against Russia after the 10-day deadline expires. "We'll impose sanctions...I know more than anybody about sanctions and tariffs. I don't know if it will have an effect, but we will do it," he promised.

Trump emphasized that the war needs to stop. "Right now, 7,000 soldiers a week, Ukrainian and Russian, are dying...Also, people are dying in cities because Putin is firing missiles at them. I think it's a disgrace," the American leader said.

Trump also said that his special envoy for the Middle East Steve Whitkoff will soon visit Russia. This will be his fifth visit. The last time Whitkoff came to Moscow to meet with Putin was in April.

On July 28, Trump announced that he had decided to reduce his designated deadline for achieving peace in Ukraine from 50 days to 10, explaining that he was disappointed with Putin's actions: the U.S. president stressed that Russia continues to escalate and strike peaceful Ukrainian cities despite Washington's efforts.

The ultimatum expires on August 8. After that, the US intends to impose secondary sanctions - duties of 100% against Russia and its trading partners. The Kremlin said the country has developed an "immunity" to economic restrictions since the start of the war.
