People are being evacuated by helicopter.
A flash flood on the Budhi Gandaki River in Nepal destroyed villages and damaged a hydroelectric power plant under construction. People are being evacuated from the danger zones by helicopter. The disaster is believed to have been caused by a landslide that blocked one of the river’s tributaries.
It all began on the morning of October 11 in Gorkha District. According to The Kathmandu Post reports, citing preliminary data from the local administration, the floodwaters destroyed about 40 homes in three villages.
The fate of four people who were inside a building near the riverbank in Chumcheta remains unknown. In addition, contact has been lost with a group of four to five shepherds.

The Nepalese Army evacuated six residents of the village of Jagat by helicopter as the village faced the threat of landslides. Officials have not yet released any information on casualties or injuries.
Floodwaters swept away pedestrian and vehicular bridges, including the crossing connecting the Gorkha and Dhading districts. At a hydroelectric power plant under construction, the floodwaters washed away a workers’ camp and some equipment. Another 20–22 homes in the village of Saleri are at risk of collapse.
According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, a landslide likely blocked one of the tributaries of the Budhi Gandaki River. When this natural dam burst, a massive volume of water rushed down the valley, causing catastrophic flooding.
Authorities have warned residents living downstream that the likelihood of further flooding is extremely high.
