Al-Hamami had been planning the attack for several months.
The FlyDubai pilot planned to direct the plane to the Ben-Gurion Airport terminal after receiving clearance to land in Israel. This was reported by the Israeli "Channel 12" reported, citing details from the interrogation of the Omani national Hamam al-Hamami.
According to the TV channel, al-Hamami had been planning the attack for several months. In June, during one of his flights, he gathered intelligence at the airport, and prior to that, he had been trying to book a flight to Tel Aviv. He told investigators that he dreamed of “crashing into Ben-Gurion.”
The attack was thwarted thanks to Captain Smith Machhar: despite his serious injuries, he opened the cockpit door. Passengers and other pilots were able to get inside and subdue the attacker.
Following the incident on the FlyDubai flight, the Israeli prime minister ordered a comprehensive security review of foreign airlines operating flights to the country.
