The Russian economy was in the worst situation since the beginning of the war.
The economy of aggressor country Russia is going through the most difficult period since the beginning of the full-scale war, Politico reported, citing a senior EU official.
The interlocutor of the publication said that now is the moment to increase pressure on Moscow, as the situation for the Russian economy has noticeably worsened.
EU economic adviser Valdis Dombrovskis said that Russia is facing a "prolonged inflationary shock." That is why European officials emphasize at G7 meetings and in bilateral talks with US representatives that now is not the time to ease sanctions pressure.
The EU also believes that Ukraine's negotiating position has significantly strengthened compared to last year - contrary to US President Donald Trump's statements about Kiev's alleged lack of "cards".
European officials cite the €90 billion loan agreed by the EU, the success of Ukrainian forces on the frontline, the development of its own production of long-haul trucks as among the key factors.
