The dictator's biography is being rewritten.
On Monday, state agency TASS released the data of a new study on Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin's ancestors. According to the tradition of recent years, it took place before the St. Petersburg Economic Forum (SPIEF). This time the study was conducted by a top manager of the company "Techsnabexport" (part of Rosatom), which in 2020 Putin awarded by his decree. According to his research, Putin's grandfather Spiridon Ivanovich was from peasants and baptized near Tver. In 2000, the ruler said this grandfather was born in St. Petersburg. Since in the Russian Empire children were usually baptized within a few days after birth, the TASS publication looks like a refutation of the dictator's words, writes "Agency".
According to the record from the 1879 metric book published by TASS, Putin's grandfather Spiridon Ivanovich was baptized in the Church of the Ascension of the Lord in the village of Dudino, although the family of the ruler's ancestors lived in the village of Pominovo, which belonged to the parish of another village - Turginov. The village of Dudino has never been mentioned in Putin's biography before, said historian Mikhail Gershzon, who conducted the research commissioned by Lyubavin.
According to Gershzon, Putin's ancestors were peasants, but no details of their daily life have been preserved in the archives.
In the book "From the First Person" in 2000, Putin said that "my grandfather was born in St. Petersburg."
In addition, according to the 2000 version, Putin's grandfather was not a peasant but a cook. "The simplest family was: well, a cook and a cook. But, apparently, cooked well, because after the First World War, he was invited to work in the Gorki near Moscow, where Lenin and the entire Ulyanov family lived. When Lenin died, grandfather was transferred to one of Stalin's dachas, and he worked there for a long time," Putin claimed.
Stalin's grandfather outlived him and at the end of his life, already retired, lived and cooked in the recreation center of the Moscow City Party Committee in Ilyinsky, the ruler said.
Later, in 2018, Putin clarified that he was talking about grandfather Spiridon.
In 2002, Putin's third aunt told MK that the dictator's grandfather was employed as an apprentice cook in Tver when he was 12-13 years old, after which Spiridon went to work in St. Petersburg. After the revolution, Spiridon and his wife and children returned to Pominovo.
There had been no scientific and fundamental work on the dictator's ancestors before, Gershzon explained the significance of his research. Lubavin, he said, "assumes that in order to publish new data on the ruler's family tree, he needs to obtain the appropriate authorization and blessing."
Who conducted the research. Lubavin is 69 years old. According to leaks studied by "The Agency," he has been working at Techsnabexport (the foreign trade company of the state corporation Rosatom) since at least 2000. In 2009, he became head of TENEX's IT directorate.
In 2020, Putin awarded Lyubavin the Order of Merit to the Fatherland, 2nd degree. The ruler's decree stated that the awardee was the director for procurement, quality and logistics of "Techsnabexport." If in 2019 Lyubavin's annual income in "Techsnabexport", according to leaks, was 15.7 million rubles, then by 2021 it increased to 17.1 million rubles.
Gershzon was born in 1971, a historian by education, graduated from the Faculty of History of Lomonosov Moscow State University. He heads the project "Your genealogy", which deals with genealogical research. Gershzon, according to the project's website, participated in the study of the family trees of "one of the chairmen of the Russian government, heads of a number of ministries, and major Russian companies."
This is the third year in a row that details of the biography of Putin's ancestors have been made public in the run-up to SPIEF. In 2024, the forum showed the dictator's family tree, from which many of Putin's current relatives were removed. Last year, a stand with awards of the ruler's father Vladimir Spiridonovich Putin was displayed at SPIEF. This year's SPIEF will be held from June 3 to 6.
