The US And EU Have Ridiculed Lavrov's Statements

Foreign diplomats will not be evacuated from Kiev.

Ukraine's allies have ignored yet another of the Kremlin's threats. The war in Ukraine simply must end, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said following a call from Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov recommending the evacuation of diplomatic staff and other U.S. citizens from Kiev. "They sent out a notice to all embassies, and I think he just called me personally to tell me -- they informed all embassies -- that Kiev was going to be a very dangerous place," Rubio said. However, the secretary of state added, "Kiev has been a very dangerous place for years.

Analogously, EU Ambassador to Ukraine Katarina Maternova said, "Russia is once again threatening diplomats and foreigners, urging us to leave Kiev. But we are not going anywhere!" She called such threats a sign not of strength but of desperation. "The more aggressive and threatening the Kremlin behaves, the clearer it becomes that Putin's regime realizes: it will not be able to break Ukraine's resilience and the support of its partners. Kiev will endure. Ukraine will stand. And so will we," Maternova wrote.

The threats by Lavrov and the Russian Foreign Ministry that Russia's armed forces are "embarking on systematic and consistent strikes" against Kiev in accordance with Vladimir Putin's order, she called "a masterpiece of hypocrisy." "The regime, which for years has been bombing apartment buildings, museums, maternity hospitals, schools and power plants, has now suddenly spoken in the language of 'international humanitarian law' and 'Geneva conventions'." The same regime that strikes civilians every night with rockets and drones is now warning others to stay away," Maternova said. - We understand exactly what this means. Russia wants fear. Panic. Isolation of Ukraine. It will not work."

This terror attack against civilians and diplomatic missions in Kiev was described by the Polish Embassy in Ukraine as a bid to achieve political goals that the Kremlin cannot achieve militarily. The Foreign Ministry's threats "indicate a rapid approach to the deadlock in the Russian war of conquest," the French embassy in Ukraine said.

Rubio added: "Every time we see such large-scale strikes from one side or the other, it reminds us why this terrible war, which has already lasted longer than World War II, must finally come to an end."

In recent days, Russia has been conducting massive bombardments of Kiev and other regions of Ukraine day and night, using hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles. During a strike on the night of May 24, a hypersonic Oreshnik missile was used.
