The drone has a speed of 500 km/h, but that's not its only advantage in the air.
Estonia has developed a revolutionary P4P interceptor drone that combines the vertical takeoff of a multicopter with the speed of a missile. Ukraine is already testing the new system to destroy fast jet drones of the occupying Russian Federation.
This is reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to a LinkedIn post by the Estonian technology company Alatyr Group.
The main advantage of the P4P is its speed. The drone is capable of accelerating up to 500 kilometers per hour, allowing it to catch up with Shahed-type jets, which were previously out of reach for conventional interceptors.
The drone's design is quite unusual. It has an elongated cylindrical body that provides ideal aerodynamics during horizontal flight.
The system works in two stages:
Four powerful electric motors lift the device vertically upward.
After takeoff, a rocket booster is activated, which instantly accelerates the drone to the target.
This makes the P4P a true hybrid, and it does not require special runways or bulky catapults.
Why Ukraine needs such drones
The threat in the air is constantly growing, because the occupying Russian Federation is actively working on the development of faster strike drones. The Estonian interceptor is designed precisely for shooting down such targets. Thanks to the drone, the AFU get a tool that can quickly reduce the distance to the enemy object.
The Economics of War: An Alternative to Expensive Missiles
It is not always reasonable to use expensive anti-aircraft missiles against drones. The Estonian development offers a much better price for destroying the target.
The missile engine combined with electric motors makes the drone fast and maneuverable, which is especially important for intercepting UAVs.
The system is still being improved. Detailed specifications and the number of units transferred are being kept secret.
