Sweden Ready To Reinforce Ukrainian Air Force With First Gripen Fighters

With a loan from the European Union.

The Swedish government is going to provide Ukraine with a number of Gripen JAS 39 C/D multirole fighters designed for reconnaissance, air-to-air and air-to-ground missions.

Ukraine is to pay for the planes with a loan from the European Union. This was reported by Aftonbladet on May 27.

According to the media, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson has called a press conference for May 28. The government is expected to announce the transfer of JAS 39 C/D fighter jets to Ukraine.

At the same time, negotiations regarding the future sale of additional Jas 39E aircraft to Ukraine are to begin.

The publication writes that Ulf Kristersson will visit the Uppland Air Squadron in Uppsala. The visit is expected to include a press conference to present news related to international cooperation in the field of aviation.

Other details, particularly regarding the number of Gripen JAS 39 C/Ds planned for transfer, have not yet been disclosed by the media.
