Using "Oreshnik" to strike Ukraine would bring Russian dictator Vladimir Putin the opposite result to what he wants to achieve.

As RBC-Ukraine, Congressman Jim Himes, a member of the US House Intelligence Committee, said this at a briefing in Kiev.

"The use of a missile capable of carrying nuclear weapons is obviously a form of escalation in itself. But not only will the Ukrainians not be intimidated by this, but the wreckage of this missile is now in their and our possession," he said.

The congressman added that this will be used by both the Ukrainians and the West to understand the capabilities of the Russian missile.

"So I believe that, like many other steps that Vladimir Putin has taken, this will produce the opposite result to what he is trying to achieve," Himes emphasized.
