The head of the European Commission reminded the U.S. president of the recent trade agreement.

The head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen commented on the recent threat of Donald Trump to raise duties on European cars, saying that the EU is ready for any development, writes Euronews.

Fon der Leyen emphasized that there are already agreements between the EU and the United States that need to be implemented, first of all, the trade agreement already concluded last year with the Trump administration:

"A deal is a deal, and we made it. And the essence of this deal is prosperity, common rules and reliability," von der Leyen said in Armenia on Tuesday.

The EU is therefore counting on the fulfillment of previously agreed agreements.

Trump earlier threatened to raise tariffs on EU cars from 15% to 25%, accusing Europe of violating the agreements.

In response, von der Leyen noted that the U.S. has restrictions that do not allow it to raise duties above a certain level on its own.

She also said that the EU is in the final stages of implementing part of a trade agreement to eliminate tariffs on a number of U.S. goods. The relevant law is still under consideration in the European Parliament.

The European side now demands Washington to explain the new threats and at the same time says it is ready to respond if additional duties are imposed.
