Lavrov Spoke To Rubio For The First Time In More Than Six Months

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has spoken by phone with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the Russian diplomatic office said.

"The foreign ministers held a 'reconciliation of hours' on the current situation in international affairs and Russian-US relations, as well as discussed the schedule of bilateral contacts. The conversation was constructive and businesslike," the publication said.

The previous time Lavrov and Rubio called on October 20 last year. The Russian Foreign Ministry said then that the sides "constructively discussed" possible concrete steps to follow up on the agreements reached during the conversation between Russian and US Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump the same month.

After the conversation, Lavrov said he and Rubio agreed to continue telephone contacts "to better understand where we are and how to move in the right direction."
