Trump Suggested That China Send Tankers To The U.S. Instead Of The Persian Gulf
Donald Trump

Beijing gets about 60% of its oil from the Strait of Hormuz.

American President Donald Trump has said that the United States has suggested that China redirect their oil tankers to the United States instead of the Persian Gulf countries. Trump made the statement while answering a reporter's question during a White House briefing.

"They get about 60 percent of their oil from the Strait of Hormuz. He (Chinese President Xi Jinping. - Note) behaved very respectfully. China did not challenge us. We offered to send these ships to the United States. I made a proposal to send their ships to Texas, Louisiana and Alaska, which is very close to them," Trump said.

He emphasized that at the meeting with Xi he will have one topic to discuss - the US war with Iran.

The meeting between Donald Trump and Xi Jinping is to be held in Beijing on May 14 and 15. The American president will be accompanied by first lady Melania Trump during his visit. White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt noted that after Trump's trip to China, Xi, along with his wife Peng Liyuan, will come to the United States on a return visit.

Recently, on May 2, China imposed a ban on the enforcement of U.S. sanctions imposed on five oil refineries that were involved in buying and refining Iranian oil. Beijing deemed the sanctions illegal and ruled that they should not be enforced.

China has received at least 11 million barrels of crude oil from Iran since the US military operation began, CNBC reported in early March. All of this Iranian oil was traveling through the Strait of Hormuz, which has been blocked to other tankers. Beijing continues to be the largest importer of oil transported through the Strait of Hormuz. China accounted for up to 5.35 million barrels of crude oil per day, according to data for the first quarter of last year.
