Ukraine Has Opened The Sixth Round Of Negotiations With The EU

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry explained which aspect of the negotiations has already been highly praised by Brussels.

Ukraine and the European Union have officially opened negotiations on Cluster 6, “External Relations,” according to a statement by the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The head of the foreign ministry, Andriy Sibiga, explained which specific area of the negotiations his ministry is responsible for.

“One of the two chapters within Cluster 6—Chapter 31—falls under the responsibility of the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the implementation of reforms. “And I am proud to say that in recent years we have achieved 99% alignment between Ukraine’s foreign policy and that of the EU,” Sibiga said.

Chapter 31 concerns foreign policy, security, and defense. It is precisely in this area that Ukraine has aligned its position with the statements and decisions of the European Union.

On July 14, the third Ukraine-EU Intergovernmental Conference took place in Brussels, during which Cluster 6, “External Relations”—the last of the six negotiation clusters on Ukraine’s path to EU membership—was formally opened.

The cluster covers several areas at once:

- foreign policy;

- security and defense;

- trade;

- humanitarian aid and development cooperation.
