"I Am Your Brother": Richard Gere Records A Message For The Ukrainian People

The actor congratulated Ukrainians on Independence Day and read a poem by the poet Yuriy Izdryk.

American actor Richard Gere recorded a video message to Ukrainians to mark the 35th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence and recited poems by Ukrainian writer and poet Yuriy Izdryk.

The video message was posted on Facebook by the nonprofit organization Ukraine WOW.

Richard Gere said that he is addressing the people of Ukraine from New York and sending his best wishes. He stated that he would like to read poems by Ukrainian poet Yuri Izdrik.

“Happy Independence Day, Ukraine! I am your brother,” said the Hollywood actor. Gere recited Yuriy Izdryk’s poem “The Other.” The Ukrainian poet wrote this poem around the early 2010s, when he was actively posting his works online.

Richard Gere has never set foot on Ukrainian soil, but he has always supported Ukraine in its struggle against the occupying Russian army. In the summer of 2022, he publicly voiced his support for Ukrainians at the First Ladies and Gentlemen Summit.
