The Brother Of Well-known Russian Actress Ekaterina Volkova Is Accused Of A Brutal Double Murder

Leonid Volkov killed and dismembered two fellow Russians from St. Petersburg.

The brother of Ekaterina Volkova , a star of the TV series “Voroniny” who was born in Tallinn, is accused in the U.S. of murdering and dismembering a gay couple. The trial has been going on for more than two years, and the Russian defendant’s legal defense has cost American taxpayers $25,000. Some of Massachusetts’s top attorneys are representing the defendant, according to delfi.ee.

The trial in the case of Leonid Volkov, the brother of actress Ekaterina Volkova, has been dragging on for more than two years. Investigators are convinced that the Russian man brutally murdered two compatriots from St. Petersburg and dismembered them—28-year-old photographer Pavel Vekshin and his 37-year-old friend Kirill Shchukin. According to one theory, the motive for the murder was a housing dispute. The main reason for the delay in the case, however, was the professional conduct of Volkov’s attorneys—Debra DeWitt and Erich Bryant. The former is listed in the Super Lawyers ranking and is considered one of the best in the state of Massachusetts, while the latter has previously won high-profile criminal trials.

According to “Baza,” their work defending Volkov has already cost the Massachusetts state budget more than $25,000. The fact is that U.S. authorities deemed the Russian indigent and therefore provided him with “free” attorneys. As a result, DeWitt and Bryant are skillfully dragging out the case, ordering expert analyses, and flooding the court with motions. And all this despite the abundance of evidence presented by the prosecution. For example, the fact that Volkov used the victims’ bank cards after their murders. He used them to pay for cleaning supplies, gloves, and plastic containers in which the victims’ remains were later found.

If Leonid Volkov is found guilty, he faces a very long prison sentence for the rest of his life, without the right to parole. The defendant’s sister, actress Ekaterina Volkova, still believes that her relative could not have committed such a horrific crime.
