Ukraine wants to prevent Beijing and Moscow from growing even closer.
During a meeting with Ukrainian ambassadors, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy outlined new foreign policy priorities. He identified the development of relations with China as one of the main areas of focus.
Zelensky (Zelensky tasked the ambassadors with a mission regarding China) instructed Ukrainian diplomats to work more actively on developing relations with China. According to him, this is necessary to prevent Beijing from fully supporting Russia.
“We need to seek dialogue with China if we don’t want China to fully support Russia. If China is thinking about a future with Russia and doesn’t see other countries in that picture, we need to build those relationships,” he said.
The President of Ukraine also noted that Ukraine has already achieved positive results in developing relations with a number of countries, including the Philippines, but this work must continue.
“We need to rebuild all of this; everything needs to be refined,” he emphasized.
Separately, Zelenskyy instructed diplomats to pay more attention to Syria.
According to him, following the regime change, the country is undergoing a period of transformation, and Ukraine was among the first countries to support the new Syrian authorities. Therefore, cooperation with Damascus must be strengthened.
In addition, the president stated that Ukraine needs a stronger presence in Latin American countries. He also expressed hope that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, together with the team from the Office of the President, will present a new strategy for developing relations with African nations.
