Unusual Activity By Russia's FSB Has Been Detected Along The Border With Finland

It coincided with rumors of a possible new mobilization.

In Karelia, Russian FSB officers have tightened security at the “Shuya” checkpoint, located approximately 110 km from the border with Finland, according to Dialog.UA.

According to Astra, the heightened measures have been in effect since at least August and coincided with rumors spreading in Russia about a possible new mobilization.

Inspections are being conducted in both directions. Drivers must stop when ordered by border guards and present their documents; after the vehicle is inspected, the barrier is opened to allow them to continue on their way. Refusal to comply with this requirement may result in a fine or administrative detention for up to 15 days.

An eyewitness told Astra that FSB officers are checking the documents of men and visitors, photographing tourists’ passports, and finding out where they are staying. Border guards also record the contact information of transport operators and guesthouse owners.

Astra’s report does not cite any official explanations from Russian authorities regarding the intensified checks at the “Shuya” checkpoint.
