Lukashenka signed law on amnesty

Alyaksandr Lukashenka signed a law № 287-З “On amnesty of some categories of persons who have committed crimes” yet on November 22. But it has become known only today.

The document was adopted by the “house of representatives” on October 24, and approved by the “council of republic” on November 16. As a result of the amnesty about 1700 people are to be released from the custodial institutions and about 850 people form open type institutions.

The law comes into force from the day of its official publishing.

Meanwhile, it’s not yet known whether political prisoners Alyaksandr Kazulin, Andrei Klimau, Zmiter Dashkevich, Artur Finkevich, Mikola Autukhovich and Yury Lyavonau are included in the amnesty.

It should be reminded that release of political prisoners is the main condition of the EU for normalisation relation with Belarus. The recent US sanctions against concern Belneftekhim have been imposed first of all due to repression against the opposition, rigging election results and total violation of human rights.
