Syarhei Parsyukevich swears on icon by his wife’s health assuring of his innocence

8

Today one of the leaders of the market vendors, a political prisoner Syarhei Parsyukevich made his final statement in the court of Maskouski district of Minsk.

In his final statement Syarhei Parsyukevich said: “It was my eight day of hunger strike in prison, and I would be a blithering idiot to start beating a police officer out of revenge. I am a retired police officer myself, and I known perfectly well that it can be punished by a prison term. That is why I am accused of idiocy here.

Testimonies of the offended were confused always. They had been made fit one scheme right in the court room. They were fabricated. I offered Dulub several times to pass lie detection screening. He refused, knowing that he told lies. I haven’t committed a crime, but defended my honour, and later – my life”.

After that the political prisoner took an icon, showed it to those present and said: “This is God”, and then pointed to his family: “And this is my family. I swear by my wife and son’s lives and health, by my mother, that I haven’t been beating anybody”. After that he pointed at Dulub and said: “God will punish him”.

The sentence to Syarhei Parsyukevich is to be pronounced today between 7.30 p.m. and 8.30 p.m.

As we have informed, Syarhei Parsyukevich was arrested in Minsk on March 4. Vitsebsk businessman was detained for alleged “violent actions against a policeman”. Earlier Parsyukevich was arrested for participation in a rally of entrepreneurs in Minsk and sentenced to 15 days of arrest. He served the arrest in the remand prison in Akrestsin Street in Minsk.

As stated by S. Parsyukevich, on January 21 he was harshly beaten up by an officer of the remand prison Alyaksandr Dulub. Later the policeman charged S. Parsyukevich with beating him, in order to escape abuse of power charges.
