5

The Kremlin says Lukashenka and Medvedev would discuss military cooperation issues at the meeting.

Dmitry Medvedev and Alyaksandr Lukashenka will considerer measures of implementation of the bilateral agreement on creation of the collective air defence system, as well as of formation of the collective rapid response forces in the frames of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).

“During the discussion of bilateral military and technical cooperation special attention will be given to implementation of the agreement on joint defence of the air borders of the “union state” and creation of the Common Regional Air Defence System of Russia and Belarus,” Interfax learn from a source in the Kremlin.

According to it, after necessary interstate procedures are completed the document, “aimed at considerably increasing defence capacity of Russia and Belarus”, will come into force.

The source noted that the presidents would share their opinions on a wide range of issues of regional and international agenda. Taking into account that Belarus holds presidency in the Eurasian Economic Community (EurAsEC) and will hold presidency in the CSTO after Armenia, it is planned to consider how decisions, taken at extra summits of these organizations in Moscow on February 4 (on founding of anti-crisis foundation, high tech center of the EurAsEC, and formation of the CSTO collective rapid response forces) are being implemented.

It should be reminded that the latest session of the Supreme State Council of the “union state” was held in Moscow on February 3. An agreement on collective border defence of the “union state” and creation of the Russian-Belarusian Common Regional Air Defence System was signed at the session. An agreement on creation of the CSTO collective rapid response forces was signed at the session of the heads of states-members of the Collective Security Treaty Organization in Moscow.
