Yury Lyavonau: “Autukhovich will be released under new president”

25% of prisoners are kept in prisons of Belarus under fabricated accusations.

Charter97.org website was told about that by a former political prisoner, one of the leaders of entrepreneurs Yury Lyavonau, who has become a member of the initiative group of Andrei Sannikov.

“We are long-time acquaintances, and from the very beginning, from the first meeting, Sannikov produced a very pleasant impression as a person. A little bit later I got to know him as a politician. His today’s activities resonate with me. I believe he acts right in the context of the situation in our country. I admire his courage, as only a courageous person can withstand the current regime, bringing up all sensitive and crucial questions, which the nation has to the regime since long ago.

Another issue, which is also important for me. From the very beginning, when persecution of Mikalai Autukhovich, Uladzimir Asipenka and me started, Andrei Sannikov took a firm and unshakable stand. He believed us; he attended every sitting of the court and supported us greatly. Today I am greatly worried by the situation with Mikalai Autukhovich. I won’t be able to help him without change of the regime. He will be in prison, until the leadership of the country changes. However this man is completely innocent. That is why I will work in Sannikov’s team. I consider him a just person. About 25% of persons, who stay in prisons in Belarus, must not be there. They are people who were victims of the regime’s arbitrariness. They have destroyed lives, lost families, their health deteriorated. After becoming a president, Sannikov should evaluate the situation soberly and thoroughly, and take right decisions through public institutions and separation of powers,” Yury Lyavonau believes.
