Three European Belarus activists expelled from Minsk State Linguistic University

On February 6, the activists of the European Belarus civil campaign, Alyaksandr Saldatsenka, Alyaksandr Vyalitchanka and Mikita Kavalenka, were expelled from the Minsk State Linguistic University (MSLU).

The students served administrative arrests for taking part in actions of solidarity with Belarusian political prisoners, Viasna human rights centre reports.

Alyaksandr Saldatsenka was sentenced to 7 days in custody for the action on October 25, 2011. Alyaksandr Vyalitchanka and Mikita Kavalenka were detained at the action on October 26, 2011 and received 15 and 10 days in custody respectively.

Alyaksandr Vyalitchanka was detained for the action on August 2, 2011, near the penal colony in Horki when political prisoner Zmitser Dashkevich was serving his sentence there. He was fined 30 basic units.

In November 2011, MSLU rector Natallya Baranava issued an “official warning against unlawful conduct” (the copy is in the picture below) to the students thus having exceeded her official power. The activists filed complaints over the incident to a prosecutor’s office and the Ministry of Education.
