Photo fact: Solidarity with Ales Bialiatski in Gdansk

Real masterpieces supporting Belarusian political prisoners can be seen on the walls of Polish towns.

One of the graffiti in Gdansk depicts a postcard to jailed human rights activist Ales Bialiatski, Belorusski Partizan reports.

Ales Bialiatski serves his prison term in correctional colony No. 2 in Babruisk. On November 24, 2011, he was found guilty of a large-scale tax fraud and sentenced to 4.5 years in a medium security correctional colony and confiscation of property. Bialiatski faced prosecution for having bank accounts in Lithuania and Poland. The court ignored the fact that he used all the money on human rights activities.

Ales Bialiatski received several awards for human rights struggle last year. The Belarusian political prisoner received the Petra Kelly Prize and the Lech Wałęsa Award. The head of Viasna human rights centre was given the National Human Rights Award 2012 for personal courage in human rights activity
