Attorneys cannot find Baumgertner

There is now information on Uralkali director general’s location.

Vladislav Baumgertner’s attorney Dzmitry Harachka has been trying to learn the location of his client since early morning today. In an interview to the charter97.org web-site he said that he had no other news on the case of the Russian company’s director general.

“I cannot yet comment on anything”, - he said.

They could say anything about Vladislav Baumgertner’s location neither at Russia’s embassy, nor at KGB, nor the Investigatory Committee, BelaPAN reports.

The chairman of the supervisory board of the joint Belarusian and Russian closed corporation Belarusian Potash Company Vladislav Baumgertner was arrested in Minsk on 26 August and put in KGB jail charged with power abuse.

On 16 September, Russia’s deputy Prosecutor General Aleksandr Zviagintsev said that Belarus had made a decision to provide Russian Prosecutor General’s office with materials on Russian citizens involved in this criminal case.

On 19 September at a meeting on current economic and foreign policy issues Lukashenka did not rule out the possibility of Baumgertner’s extradition to Russia for investigation.

On 20 September the aide to Russian president Jury Ushakov claimed that the Kremlin was expecting forthcoming extradition of Uralkali’s director general, however this process “was taking somewhat longer than planned”.

On 21 September a Russian newspaper the Kommersant reported referring to its sources that the delay of Baumgertner’s extradition was caused by Minsk’s demand to continue criminal proceedings against him in Russia.

According to unofficial information, the situation with criminal proceedings against Uralkali’s director general may be discussed by Lukashenka and Putin in the case they meet in the framework of today’s summit of the Collective Security Treaty Organization summit in Sochi. In the opinion of a number of analysts, the very possibility of such a meeting is conditioned by Baumgertner’s extradition.
