Viber: We Started To Deal With Wiretapping Problem As Soon As We Found Out About It

The company acknowledges that it became aware of wiretapping a few months ago.

The media reported on Sunday, that one can listen to other people's conversations via Viber, a popular mobile application.

The interlocutor’s conversation can be overheard, if it is carried out at the same time with a voice call. To overhear a conversation one just needs to press the Hold button on the smartphone twice. And the overheard user won't be aware of the interception.

Today, the press service of the company has informed the website Charter97.org, that Viber had long been aware of the problem with the interception of conversations and that they had solved the problem several months ago without letting the users know about this.

"Viber treats confidentiality issues seriously – we focused on solving this problem as soon as it was discovered. We have found the solution long ago, several months ago, however we failed to inform the users properly about the solution and we apologize for this," – the press service informed.
