Government’s Summer ‘Surprise’ For Belarusians

Government’s Summer ‘Surprise’ For Belarusians

Starting since July 1, it will bew allowed to take to Belarus only 5 kilos of vegetables and fruit, by one person.

The decision of the Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission, which comes into force on July 1 of this year, clearly states the following: one person can bring up to 5 kg of vegetables and fruits to the territory of the EEU countries (Belarus, Russia, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan), and up to 3 bouquets of flowers. If the said volumes are exceeded, a phytosanitary certificate is required. What is it and where to get it? How to bring delicious Ukrainian watermelons, apricots and peppers, in the report by kp.by.

What exactly are they going to control?

Up to 5 kilos of vegetables and fruit are allowed to be brought to the territory of the EAEU countries by one person, including a child. Important to note, nuts, legumes, berries, mushrooms also count!

One person is now allowed to bring up to 3 bouquets of cut flowers. The composition of a bouquet is also fixed: up to 15 flowers, stems, grass-blades etc. It also refers to dried plants. To put it shortly, one person can bring 45 flowers.

The norms refer to the one-time border crossing. This means, one can bring 5 kilos of apricots today, and 5 in a week, both times without a certificate.

Where to get a certificate?

The document also says that if you exceed the allowable amount, you will need a phytosanitary certificate. Where do you get it?

As KP was explained in the Belarusian State Inspectorate for Seedage, Quarantine and Plant Protection, a phytosanitary certificate is issued at the place of departure of the cargo or its cultivation. For example, one buys apricots in Kyiv. Then they go to the inspector for plant quarantine and tell them that they want to export such products to Belarus. The inspector accepts their application, inspects the products for the presence of diseases included in the unified list of the EAEU. If everything is clean, they issue a document to be shown at the border.

If you deliver up to 5 kilos of vegetables and fruit to Belarus, you need no certificate.

Which amount requires a certificate?

For example, you are taking 6 kg of sweet cherry from abroad. Which amount should you issue a phytosanitary certificate for? As explained by experts, it does not matter. In fact, you need a certificate for exactly 1 kg. But if it is six kilograms of the same sweet cherry, it does not matter which amount you will certify.

How to bring a watermelon now?

Most often, one watermelon weighs more than 5 kilos. If you are travelling together (with a husband or a friend), they may divide the norm between the two of yoyu. This means, a 10-kilo watermelon can be transported without a certificate by two people, and with a certificate by one person. Besides, there is no need to cut the watermelon in halves inder such circumstances.

Which norms for bringing products are in force now?

Along with the phytosanitary requirements, there are customs regulations for the import of products. So, if you were abroad more than once every three months, then, according to the norms, you can import no more than 10 kg of products.

If you crossed the border more than once a week, then the product rate is 5 kg, including 1 liter of alcohol. In case of excess you will have to pay a fee.
