Valery Karbalevich: One Hundred Thousand People That Would Not Disperse Are Needed To Change Power In Belarus

A social explosion in Belarus might happen at any time.

Belarus needs free presidential and parliamentary elections. The Rada of the Belarusian National Congress adopted a relevant statement demanding from the authorities to hold new elections under international control.

BNC: the current power’s immutability has led the country to a dead end

The intellectual potential of the entire vertical, led by Lukashenka, is far behind the level of society. The question is how free elections can be carried out in practice in Belarus. Historical experience shows that such changes are possible with massive popular protests.

"We need to have a huge crowd on the street, about a hundred thousand people, and that this crowd mustn’t disperse, people must demand, stay and be ready to fight for these elections," – political scientist Valery Karbalevich told Belsat.

A social explosion can occur at any time

Experts emphasize that social explosions can rarely be forecasted – like it was in the spring this year, when the Belarusians massively took to the streets across the country and insisted on the temporary suspension of Decree No. 3.

Meanwhile, the Belarusian National Congress has announced the nearest protest rally on September 8th. The demonstration against the conduct of Russian military exercises will take place on Kastrychnitskaya Square in Minsk at 6 pm.
