Stanislau Shushkevich: Lukashenka Is Illegitimate And Not Needed

If there had been normal elections in Belarus – the dictator would have gone long ago.

The chairman of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Belarus (1991-1994), Stanislau Shushkevich, stated that on air of the information and analytical project “The First Ones About The Main Things. Comments” on the ZIK channel.

“Aliaksandr Lukashenka previously stated that he is an atheist, then that he is an Orthodox atheist. And I can say for sure that he is a godless man. You see, our state is separated from the church. And when he works to strengthen his power, so that Russia and the Patriarch Kirill support him,” – the politician is convinced.

He noted: he fully shares the position of Ukraine, since it is impossible to glorify Kirill when he blesses the Russian military for a war with Ukraine and Ukrainian believers.

“Therefore, it seems to me that the path of autocephaly, which Ukraine has chosen, is the right path. And it is very correct that this path is supported by Constantinople,” – Stanislau Shushkevich emphasized.

He also commented on the opinion that the decision to grant autocephaly to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church could cause another aggression on the part of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“Putin has already shown that he does not spare the lives of his citizens. He did not pay attention to how many people died for various provocations in the Donbass, so I think he can do anything. But I do not think that the “KGB man” will be on the defense of the church. It would not look natural, so I don’t think it can happen,” – the ex-chairman of the Supreme Council of Belarus assured.

In addition, he answered the question why Ukraine had not served as an example for Lukashenka that any friendship with Russia can come at a price.

“You see, Lukashenka serves Putin. If there had been normal elections in Belarus – the dictator would have gone long ago. Such a “president” is illegitimate and not needed. But it is suitable for Russia, which does everything it wants with him,” – Shushkevich said.
