Dangerous Bridge Over Prypiats Is To Be Blown Up

The authorities have refused to repair the bridge in Zhytkavichy district.

The dangerous bridge over Prypiats in Zhytkavichy district will be blown up. It was announced by Minister of Transport and Communications Anatol Sivak today.

According to him, the condition of the damaged unit has become even less stable. Therefore, all the alternatives with using temporary supports have been rejected.

– It must be destroyed with the help of explosives, – BelTA quotes the minister.

The bridge was recognized as dangerous late last year. It was closed for the traffic. The crossing over Prypiats is carried out via a pontoon bridge, which has a low throughput capability, and, in addition, it cannot always be used because of weather conditions. Similarly, the ferry crossing remains unstable.

According to Sivak, by the time of blasting operations, a metal unit to replace the old one will have been prepared.
