More Than 400 Athletes Have Already Signed the Letter with Demands to the Authorities

Among them are sports superstars.

At the moment, 410 athletes and workers of the sports industry, including journalists from sports publications, have signed an open letter with demands to the authorities, tut.by writes.

Let us remind you that the letter was initiated immediately after the elections. As of August 19, there were over 200 signatures. Now the number has doubled.

The open letter puts forward a demand to hold a repeat presidential election in Belarus and declare invalid the vote, which took place on August 9. The signatories also demand the release of political prisoners and all citizens detained during the demonstrations and not involved in illegal activities. They want law enforcement officers' illegal activities to be stopped, and all the victims to receive full medical, psychological, legal, and material assistance.

The application was signed by, among others,

Andrei Krauchanka, silver medalist of the 2008 Olympics, European champion, silver medalist of two world championships in athletics,

Dzmitry Asanau, bronze medalist of the 2015 World Boxing Championship,

Sciapan Papou, World and European Sambo Champion,

swimmer Aliaksandra Herasimenia, who twice became the second at the 2012 Olympics and took third place at the 2016 Olympics,

Natalila Leshchyk, who became the second in rhythmic gymnastics competitions at the 2012 Olympics,

Elvira Herman, 2018 European Athletics Champion,

eight-time basketball champion of Belarus Mikita Meshcherakou,

bronze medalist of the European Basketball Championship Alena Liauchenka,

Freestyle head coach Mikalai Kazeka, whose students have won six Olympic medals,

world freestyle champion Aliaksandra Ramanouskaja,

world and European champion in running Maryna Arzamasava,

and many others.

Among the footballers, the statement was signed by former Zenit player Siarhei Herasimets, ex-player of Minsk Torpedo Aliaksandr Filanovich, former goalkeepers of the Krumkachy club Anton Shunto and Yauhen Kasciukevich, former Zvezda-BSU player Yauhen Viarouka, ex-player of the national team Belarus Siarhei Shtaniuk and the former goalkeeper of the Belarusian national team Genadz Tumilovich, who played for a number of Russian clubs, as well as the footballer of Arsenal Dziarzhynsk Albert Kapski.
