"Authorities Ffear Like Plague That Railroads Will Be Stopped"

A vibrant appeal to the employees of the Belarusian Railways.

A Charter97.org reader working on the railroad published an appeal to transport workers on the eve of the strike that will begin in Belarus on November 1:

"In the light of the forthcoming events I ask all railroad workers to remember about our corrupt trade union, to remember that it is not the people who "run" the road, but mercenaries hired by the KGB, to remember about our repressed, dismissed, arrested colleagues, friends, acquaintances and relatives.

They say that the "railroad" is one family, but a lot of people put a negative meaning in this concept. That everyone around is related to each other and taken to work through good connections, and enjoy the social package and all the benefits provided by the road at their will and discretion, depending on the degree of closeness to the superiors.

Please also remember your lost prosperity caused by low wages and the outflow of qualified personnel. This prosperity is melting before our eyes because of the leaders, who have no opinion of their own and obey the criminals from the illegitimate power.

And, in connection with all of the above, I would like now to put a positive meaning into the concept of the "family of railroad workers". We, even those who have been fired, are now so close to one another, thanks to the events in our country and the resistance to the fascist regime. This resistance has brought us together. We think and act in the same direction.

The decision to go on strike must be a conscious one. The fact that the authorities fear like the plague that the railroad will be stopped seems obvious to everyone. Transportation always plays a decisive role in a strike.

Think about your future and the future of the "Belarusian Railroad"! If we are employees of the railroad, we are responsible for its work and prosperity, as well as for the strike on the road. Train drivers, trackmen, drivers, specialists, programmers and railwaymen of all professions and positions, the future of the whole country depends on you, not only the railroad! Be strong in spirit, be brave and resist!
