Lithuania Pledges Assistance to Poland in Deterring Migrants Storming the Border

Lithuania is ready to assist Poland in curbing the influx of illegal migrants from Belarus, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda said in a telephone conversation with his Polish counterpart Andrzej Duda.

“The scale of the hybrid attack by the Belarusian regime is unprecedented. We must remain united and in solidarity. Lithuania is ready to cooperate with Poland and help overcome this crisis by all possible means,” his communication group quotes Nausedu, BelaPAN reports.

The heads of Lithuania and Poland "agreed to keep in touch, regularly exchange information on the situation on the border with Belarus and coordinate actions."

As reported, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Lithuania proposed to introduce a state of emergency on the border with Belarus in connection with the high concentration of migrants on the Belarusian-Polish border.

On the morning of November 8, video footage of a large column of migrants moving along the road to the border with Poland appeared on Telegram channels. They were accompanied by Belarusian security forces in camouflage uniforms.

Then thousands of migrants, under the control of law enforcement officers, turned from the highway into the woods and began to storm the Polish border.

Andrzej Duda chaired a meeting of the National Security Council on November 8 with the participation of the ministers of defense, foreign affairs, the head of the border service, and others. The Polish president also discussed the situation with the head of Georgia. In addition, Duda decided to shorten his visit to Slovakia.
