U.S. Congress Proposed To Establish International Tribunal Over Lukashenka's Crimes

The proposal is made by a politician, involved in punishing regimes in Rwanda, Sierra Leone and the former Yugoslavia.

Christopher Smith, Co-Chairman of the Commission on Human Rights in the U.S. House of Representatives, considers it effective to address the International Criminal Court with regard to Lukashenka's actions, reports The Voice of America.

The parliamentarian believes that "Lukashenka is very scared and is desperate that he is about to lose power - and it is a very dangerous state, he is ready for anything with regard to the Belarusian people".

In this respect, the congressman considers that "the United States should fully understand this - and act pre-emptively. We should be ready to establish an international tribunal for his crimes."

"I supported creating such tribunals over the tragedies in Rwanda, Sierra Leone, and the former Yugoslavia. I am sure that Slobodan Milosevic, like other murderers, never thought he would end up in the dock. Russia was not happy about it, and it is unlikely to be happy if Lukashenka is brought to justice, but look at how many people have been killed during his rule, how many thousands of Belarusians have been beaten and humiliated in the streets of cities, and he may well be behind the death of Vital Shyshou. This could all be considered by the International Criminal Court as well."

The Republican congressman reminded that "the full support for the Lukashenka regime - propaganda, financial and even military - comes from Moscow and makes it complicit."

"But perhaps, at some point, Putin will have to realize that there are more inconveniences from this support for him than benefits."
