The equipment will be installed and start operating in the second quarter of 2022.

The Lithuanian Customs Department has signed an agreement to install an X-ray monitoring system for passing trains at the railway checkpoint in Kena on the border with Belarus.

This was stated by the agency spokesman, Vitas Volungevičius, reports AFN.

"The contract for installation of X-ray equipment to inspect the trains at the railway checkpoint in Kena is signed with a branch of the Chinese corporation Nuctech in Warsaw. So far, the contract has been signed only by the Lithuanian side," he said.

The cost of the contract is not mentioned. "Until the document is finally signed, it is better not to talk about the price," said the representative of the department.

It is noted that the preliminary cost of installing the Nuctech X-ray equipment in Kena is about 4 million euros. It is expected that it can be installed and start operating in the second quarter of 2022.

The Lithuanian government commission, which evaluates contracts whose contents may affect national security interests, in August this year did not object to the contract with the Chinese corporation, although in February the Lithuanian Cabinet blocked the introduction of the Chinese-developed X-ray baggage control system in airports. At that time, some Lithuanian politicians claimed that the Chinese equipment was capable of collecting data on airline passengers' luggage.
