Russian Commander Kills Subordinates, Escapes From Positions In Donetsk Region

The Russian command has awarded him the Order for Courage.

In late October, a Russian captain and commander of one of the companies fighting in the Donetsk direction received the Order of Courage. His squad of 140 men was deployed to the combat zone on October 14. The mobilised men were actually thrown in with machine guns against tanks, without any ammunition or food supplies. For about a week, the invaders were eating what they could find and drinking water from puddles, 24tv.ua writes.

They had no communication with the high command, so none of them could arrange for the evacuation of the wounded and the removal of the bodies of the dead. And they did not really want to, as the Russians' first priority in the war zone was the question of survival.

When being on the front line became unbearable for the captain he decided to announce to the rest of the company that he would command the detachment a little farther away from the place where the personnel were dislocated. He said he would get away for a better assessment of the operational situation. At that time there were only 37 mobilised men still alive in there.

The commander then hid in a nearby plantation between the company and the barrier squadron, where he spent almost a day. On the same night they came under a crushing artillery fire. When the captain returned he was absolutely drunk. Only three of his company were combat-ready. He shot his subordinates, after which he fled for good. This moment was captured on video from a drone by the Ukrainian defenders.

The officer explained to the high command that he had managed "to hold back the Polish mercenary offensive on his own", while all his subordinates were killed in action. He had been awarded a medal for such a deed.
