The fire zone in Russia totals 109,950 hectares. The total number of forest fires in the country amounts to 126. Information agencies report, citing the press service of Avialesokhrana, writes kommersant.ru.
The Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) suffers from the largest number of forest fires. The total fire zone there covers 74,608 hectares. The Komi Republic has 12,462 ha on fire, the Ryazan Region - 11,700 ha, the Nizhny Novgorod Region - 6,504 ha.
Forest fires are registered in the Sverdlovsk, Arkhangelsk, Pskov, Ivanovo, Orenburg, Kostroma, Ulyanovsk and Kirov regions, the Republics of Mari-El and Tyva, the Khanty-Mansiysk and Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Districts.
In the Ryazan Region, 3,131 hectares of the reserve Oksky and the national park Meshchersky are on fire. An area of 5 ha is also on fire in the Malaya Sosva Nature Reserve, the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous District.
Fighting forest fires all over Russia involves 5.4 thousand people, 918 vehicles and 44 aircraft.
In August, several forests and peat bogs caught fire in Russia due to the abnormal heat and poor precipitation. The Federal Forestry Agency announces a complicated situation with wildfires in the Central Federal District. On August 23, the Government of Russia set up a commission on the liquidation of forest fires. The head of the commission is Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Grigorenko. The Ministry of Emergency Situations reports a shortage of firefighting equipment for extinguishing fires.
