Poland has put into operation a border electronic tracking system on the border with Russia. It will protect against a possible influx of illegal migrants or smuggling.
This was stated by Polish President Andrzej Duda, Polskie Radio 24 reports.
The President emphasized that the new barrier will be another system designed to protect Poland. This time we are talking about the border with the Russian Federation.
“No one needs to be told how much the scale of threats has grown in recent years. Here, on this border, there is no such practice as on the Belarusian border, where for more than two years we have been constantly observing how Belarusian services are pushing these migrants to our border,” Duda said.
He emphasized that in Belarus this is done in agreement with the Russian authorities.
“Due to the fact that Russia is the aggressor in Ukraine and that it is unfriendly towards Poland today, we can expect almost any action from Russia,” Duda added.
He added that the creation of a border surveillance system and support for the functioning of the Border Service has recently been one of the priorities. According to him, the barrier on the Polish-Russian border consists of 2 thousand pillars and almost 3 thousand cameras operating in various systems.
“It's a really great system,” he said.
