The anti-terrorist mopping up operation has begun.
The Israel Defense Forces says infantry forces and tanks entered Gaza Strip territory today in “localized raids” in order to clear the area of potential terrorists and locate missing Israelis.
This has been reported by The Times of Israel. The IDF says the troops also killed a number of terrorists in the area, including a Hamas cell that launched anti-tank guided missiles at Israel.
The troops did not enter deep into Gaza.
IDF spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari says armored and infantry forces carried out searches and “thwarted anti-tank guided missile squads that intended to infiltrate into Israeli territory.”
“Our troops scanned and collected various findings that may help in the effort to locate the missing. We will continue to make every effort to find every detail about the missing and hostages,” Hagari says.
According to the publication, An estimates 150-200 people were taken hostage by Hamas during its murderous attack last Saturday. The IDF has so far notified the families of 120 hostages that their loved ones are being held in the Gaza Strip.
In the morning of October 7, Hamas attacked Israel. They stated that during the Al-Aqsa Storm military operation, thousands of missiles were fired at Israeli cities, and several dozen armed terrorists penetrated into Israeli settlements bordering the Gaza Strip by water, air and land.
The Israeli government first introduced a state of emergency and then martial law in the country. In response to the invasion, the Israel Defense Forces announced the counter-terrorism Operation Iron Swords.
Following the Hamas attack, the Israel Defense Forces struck hundreds of terrorist-linked targets in the Gaza Strip. Specifically, the IDF bombing destroyed several command posts, a command center used by Hamas naval officials, and a facility used by the terrorists for reconnaissance.
On the morning of October 13, the IDF reported that Israel had given Gaza residents 24 hours to evacuate to the south of the enclave “for their own safety.” According to UN estimates, we are talking about the displacement of about a million people.
