An occasion for China to send a clear message to the Minsk regime.
Poland is ready, if necessary, to close the railway crossings with Belarus. This was stated to РАР by Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration Maciej Wąsik. According to him, Poland and Lithuania have already agreed on a mechanism for making a decision to close road crossings. Latvia should also join it.
Wąsik expressed readiness to limit traffic through railway crossings as well. In his opinion, this is a reason for China to send a clear signal to the Belarusian authorities.
“We understand that most of the trade, including Polish, goes through them. Chinese trade is also underway. I think that China should send an appropriate signal to Lukashenka so that they do not take actions from which they will suffer,” the deputy minister said.
Wąsik noted that according to the Polish side, there are from 3.5 to 5 thousand militants of Wagner PMC in Belarus. In his opinion, although they are dangerous, this is not the kind of unit that will enter Poland and start a war, but they can be used for hybrid actions, provocations on the border with firearms, increased migratory pressure, etc.
“We know that there are between 3,500 and 5,000 of them, and they do not receive any important assignments. Some of them, small groups, are located on two training grounds near the Polish border. The rest are preparing for the winter, they are not doing anything,” Wąsik said about the “Wagnerites”.
Today, he also announced that another 2,000 Polish troops would be sent to strengthen the Border Guard, and not a thousand, as previously thought.
At the moment, there is no passenger rail transportation between Belarus and Poland. Only freight traffic is saved. It should be noted that in November 2021, during the aggravation of the migration crisis in the Kuznica area, the Polish side already warned about the closure of the railway crossing.
