Putin's press secretary Dmitry Peskov called the arrest warrants for the secretary of the Russian Security Council Sergei Shoigu and the chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov issued by the International Criminal Court absurd.

He called them “absurd, like the arrest warrant for Putin”.

He also recalled that Russia does not recognize the jurisdiction of the ICC and is not a member of the relevant statute.

As stated in the statement of the International Criminal Court, the warrants were issued for alleged international crimes committed in Ukraine from at least October 10, 2022 to at least March 9, 2023.

According to the court, Shoigu and Gerasimov are responsible for several war crimes: striking civilian targets, causing excessive incidental harm to civilians, ordering the commission of crimes, and failing to exercise proper control over forces under their command.
