ISW: North Korea To Send Troops To Russia-Occupied Parts Of Ukraine

The type of troops and their purpose are named.

North Korea will send military construction and engineering forces to participate in "reconstruction work" on the territory of temporarily occupied areas of Donetsk region.

This is reported by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

The other day, the South Korean TV channel of TV Chosun, citing a DPRK official, reported that Pyongyang plans to send large-scale engineering forces to the occupied Donetsk region as early as July 2024. These forces will help rebuild infrastructure in temporarily occupied Donetsk.

The North Korean military has 10 engineering brigades. Chosun TV channel estimated that the DPRK could receive up to $115 million in unspecified foreign currency annually from Russia if it sends three or four engineering brigades to the occupied areas of Ukraine.

"ISW has not yet seen reports suggesting that North Korean military personnel intend to participate in combat operations in Ukraine. But direct DPRK engineering support could free up Russian combat power for operations along the front line and contribute to Russian efforts to expand military infrastructure and defensive fortifications in the occupied territory of Ukraine," the report said.
