Lithuania To Ban Some Officials From Travelling To Belarus

The ban will concern 56 thousand people.

Lithuanians working with classified information will be banned from travelling to Russia, Belarus and China. The relevant amendments to the law "On State and Official Secrets" were approved by the Lithuanian Cabinet of Ministers on June 26, writes lrt.lt.

Now the bill will be considered in the Seimas.

The law was drafted by the Ministry of Defence. The ministry says that the amendments are aimed at protecting civil servants working with classified information from the activities of foreign intelligence services. The measures were taken after intelligence agencies warned that Lithuanians with access to classified information were being recruited.

The Defence Ministry estimates that the restriction will affect about 56,000 people.
