Ukrainian Armed Forces Launch Offensive, Push Back Russians In Kharkiv And Luhansk Regions

It has become known which positions they managed to recapture.

Ukrainian forces recently recaptured positions in the north of the Kharkiv region, and also recaptured lost positions along the Kupyansk-Svatovo-Kremennaya line.

This was reported in a report by the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

Kharkiv region

The Ukrainian Armed Forces recently recaptured positions in the north of the Kharkiv region amid ongoing fighting on June 28.

Geolocation footage published on June 28 shows that Ukrainian forces recently advanced in the center of Vovchansk along Heroyiv Chernobylya Street.

The commander of the Ukrainian drone battalion operating in the Kharkiv direction reported on June 28 that the situation in the north of the Kharkiv region had stabilized and that Russian forces had not made significant progress since about June 12.

He also said that Russian forces were using both poorly trained Storm assault units and regular Russian units in the Kharkiv sector.

He said that Russian forces were rapidly replenishing their numbers in the area despite heavy losses.

Fighting continued in and around Vovchansk on June 28. Units of the Russian Phoenix engineering battalion were reportedly attempting to remotely mine areas in the northern Kharkiv region.

On June 26, a Ukrainian source said that Russian forces may have lost almost the entire 83rd Airborne Brigade (VDV) in the Kharkiv sector due to significant casualties and personnel refusal to fight, although ISW found no evidence to support this claim and believes it to be exaggerated.

Ukrainian officials also reported on June 16 and 23 that Russia was attempting to withdraw units of the 83rd Airborne Brigade (VDV) that had become ineffective in combat after heavy losses in the Kharkiv sector.

On June 11, ISW observed reports of units of the Russian 83rd Airborne Brigade operating near Chasiv Yar.

Analysts note that units of the Russian 83rd Airborne Brigade in the Kharkiv direction likely suffered significant losses that made them ineffective in combat.

However, the brigade is unlikely to have been completely destroyed, especially given that it remains unclear how much of the 83rd Airborne Brigade the Russians have redeployed from the Chasiv Yar area to the Vovchansk direction.

Luhansk region

The Ukrainian Defense Forces recently recaptured lost positions along the Kupyansk-Svatove-Kreminna line.

Geolocation footage published on June 28 shows that the Ukrainian Armed Forces recently recaptured lost positions south of Kreminna and east of the village of Ternove.

At the same time, Russian forces are reported to have advanced along the Kupyansk-Svatove-Kreminna line on June 28. However, there is no confirmed data on the advance of Russian troops in this area.

A Russian military correspondent claimed that Russian troops advanced in the area of Stepova Novoselivka and Serebryansky Forest, but the ISW found no confirmation of these claims.
