Special forces from Libya may be trained in Belarus.
The son and main heir to Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, who controls eastern Libya, met with the Belarusian dictator on October 21.
"I know that you aim to bring peace and calm to the Libyan people and unite the Libyan state into a single whole. We are ready to work with you day and night in this respect," Lukashenko said during his meeting with Saddam Khalifa Haftar
The dictator promised to provide all possible assistance and support to the Libyan National Army.
"Once again, I ask you to convey my best wishes to Field Marshal," Lukashenko said. - I very much appreciate his aspiration to establish our relations. And I want to assure you that all the agreements we have reached and will reach will be implemented."
Libya is currently in a civil war, and the central government in Tripoli does not control most of the country's territory. The Libyan National Army, led by Khalifa Haftar, who is accused of war crimes, operates in the east. He is not just a warlord, but the de facto ruler of the territory under his control.
Haftar has close ties to Putin and Lukashenko. It was to Libya that troops were transferred from Russian military bases in Syria after the overthrow of the Bashar al-Assad regime late last year.
Polish media, citing military intelligence (SWW) reported that at the end of February 2025, fighters from the 36th Special Forces Battalion of Khalif Haftar's Libyan National Army (LNA) were training in Vitebsk. In the same days, the base was visited by Saddam Haftar and Ruslan Chlyan, known as "Radimir", the new curator of Russian activities of PMC Wagner in Libya. They arrived to observe maneuvers at the training ground.
