The European Parliament Names Belarusian Heroes

Małgorzata Gosiewska honors prisoners of conscience who died in Lukashenka’s prisons.
On October 22, during a plenary session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, a debate took place on the situation in Belarus.
Speaking about the Belarusian heroes who perished in Lukashenka’s dungeons, the Chair of the European Parliament's Delegation for relations with Belarus Polish MEP Małgorzata Gosiewska, said (as reported by Charter97.org):
“We must remember these brave people who devoted their lives to the struggle for freedom and justice.
Let us honor their memory and courage by naming them:
Vitold Ashurak, Alena Amelina, Raman Bandarenka, Valery Bohdan, Hanna Kandratsenka, Tamara Karavai, Vadzim Khrasko, Mikalai Klimovich, Alyaksandr Kulinich, Ihar Lednik, Uladzimir Krysenok, Mikita Kryutsou, Andrei Padniabenny, Artsiom Parukau, Ales Pushkin, Dzmitry Sarokin, Siarhei Shchatsinka, Dzmitry Shletgauer, Valiantsin Shtermer, Dzmitry Stakhouski, Kanstantsin Shyshmakou, Aliaksandr Taraikouski and Aliaksandr Vikhor.
Let us honor their memory! We stand in solidarity with their families and friends in their grief.
I want to say loudly: we see the crimes of Lukashenka and his accomplices, we are collecting evidence, and the day will come when they will be judged by the International Tribunal in The Hague.”
Gosiewska emphasized that the number of known cases of political prisoners’ deaths exceeds ten.
On May 21, 2021, political prisoner Vitold Ashurak died in the Shklou colony.
On January 5, 2022, political prisoner Dzmitry Dudoyts committed suicide in Mahiliou.
On May 7, 2023, political prisoner Mikalai Klimovich died in a colony.
On July 5, 2023, Dzmitry Sarokin, a 37-year-old poet and participant in contemporary art festivals, died suddenly in the Lida police department.
On July 11, 2023, artist Ales Pushkin died from a perforated ulcer in a Hrodna prison.
On January 13, 2024, in Vitebsk colony No. 3, 50-year-old political prisoner Vadzim Khrasko died of pneumonia.
On February 20, 2024, opposition activist Ihar Lednik, who had heart problems and a disability, was reported dead in prison.
On April 10, 2024, in a Brest detention center, Aliaksandr Kulinich, a former airborne lieutenant colonel accused of insulting Lukashenka, died.
On November 1, 2024, Dzmitry Shletgauer, a 22-year-old Russian citizen, died.
On September 8, 2025, it became known that Andrei Podnebenny, a 36-year-old political prisoner sentenced to 16 years and 8 months, had died.
