Djibouti's parliament has approved the abolition of a constitutional restriction that prohibited citizens over 75 years old from running for president of the African republic. This was reported by Agence France-Presse.
"The national assembly ratified the amendment to abolish the age restriction, so it has been officially adopted," parliamentary speaker Dileit Mohamed Dileit told Agence France-Presse.
The amendment will allow Djibouti's 77-year-old President Ismail Omar Guelleh to run for president for the sixth time since 1999. Sam had previously conceded he would go for another five-year term.
