Donald Trump Mocked Electric Car Owners

The U.S. president called them "crazy."

Speaking at a rally in Las Vegas, Donald Trump lashed out at electric vehicle owners with criticism and ridicule, accusing them of being mentally deficient.

While telling his supporters about the “electric mandate” he allegedly repealed, Trump moved on to insulting drivers of eco-friendly vehicles.

“You’re driving an electric car… they have a disease, you know, it’s a disease,” Trump declared from the stage. “They’re driving and realize the battery is running low, and they start thinking about it when it’s still three-quarters full. You’re driving down the highway and you see a sign: ‘Charging station, turn right, 89 miles.’ These people are crazy.”

At the same time, Trump ironically mentioned his relationship with Tesla CEO Elon Musk, noting: “I rescinded the mandate. I don’t want to talk about it because Elon wasn’t thrilled with me, but I had to do it. We love Elon.”

He also proudly stated that electric cars account for only 7% of the U.S. market, adding that the U.S. possesses “60% of the world’s oil and gas, including Venezuela’s.”

Trump believes that the promotion of eco-friendly transportation is linked to the “radical left” and the Democrats. Trump appeals to his core electorate—workers in the traditional auto industry and representatives of the oil and gas sector—by demonstrating his support for gasoline engines and industrial conservatism.
